At many events, such as the increasingly popular food truck festivals, food is prepared and sold, so food safety must be considered there as well. Hygiene rules are important not only for the cook, but also for event organizers.

Events may also face such violations. Indeed, in the increasing competition between events, there is a growing emphasis on a high-quality and diverse range of food. A festival where visitors can only score a greasy bite is out of date. Moreover, with the advent of food truck festivals, we have a new type of events where a diverse and high-quality offer of food and beverages is even the crowd puller.

These developments are not without risks for organizers. This is because these mobile or temporary business premises must also comply with (strict) food safety regulations. Thereby, it is not only important for the organization to provide the necessary facilities, but also at least as important to supervise compliance with hygiene regulations by the providers.

The hygiene regulations based on the Commodities Act therefore also apply to such activities, even if there is not necessarily a profit motive. The hygiene regulations are addressed to the food preparer, but in addition, the organizer is also obliged to ensure good food safety. In fact, most APVs, on the basis of which event permits are granted, stipulate that public health must not be compromised. Many municipalities pay specific attention to food safety in the review framework for requested event permits.

Should an inspection take place during an event and find that one of the vendors is violating food safety rules, there is a chance that immediate enforcement action will be taken, which could also jeopardize the continuation of the event.

As an organizer, therefore, make sure you have a good understanding of food safety compliance by providers present on the premises. For example, prescribe the application of a specific hygiene code and monitor compliance yourself. That way, you prevent one cook from spoiling the party.
