Because of corona, his internship period started 1.5 years later. "I was actually supposed to start the internship in April 2020. Because of this delay, the internship came right at the end of my studies which allowed me to move on to a job at Poelmann van den Broek in no time."

Combining research and practice

His internship was a nice combination of researching literature and case law and participating in practice. "I participated in several hearings. Especially the first hearing I attended was special. In that case, I had done my own research and written draft documents. When you are that deep into the material, it is very interesting to see that a dispute is actually fought out in front of a judge and that that judge ultimately rules on certain justifications that you helped formulate."

Practice versus theory

He would like to learn more about the legal profession. That certainly worked out, and it's also what made him want to enter the legal profession now. "Practice does turn out to be different in many ways from the theory you learn in college. That's good to realize. In addition to legal substantive matters, I have also experienced what daily activities are like at an office."

Accessibility and good atmosphere

Office-wide, many activities are organized. This ensures that colleagues get to know each other better outside of work hours, which is very conducive to the atmosphere. "All employees are very approachable. There is little hierarchy in day-to-day dealings, which makes for a good atmosphere. In addition, there are some colleagues I knew beforehand. It is enormously nice to come into contact with them more now on the shop floor. Through the social activities that are organized here, you quickly get to know colleagues anyway. For example, we train for the 7Heuvelennacht. A trainer comes every Wednesday to give personal training to a group of colleagues to get better at running and reach our goal in November."

Training program to become a lawyer

Not only Sander was enthusiastic after his internship. His efforts and enthusiasm were rewarded. "I was offered a job here at the Employment Law Section as a Legal Assistant with eventually the training program to become an attorney."
