Imke Arntz, a driven law student pursuing both the civil and criminal law master's degrees at Radboud University, began an enlightening internship at Poelmann van den Broek from late March to late May. Under the guidance of Valerie Lipman and Reinier Pijls, she interned with the teams Commercial contracts, IE & IT and Finance & Collateral and Bankruptcy and Restructuring.
Finding the right match
Her desire for hands-on experience brought Imke to our office. It was recommended to Imke by a university professor who was convinced it was a perfect fit for her ambitions. "I started doing some research and what appealed to me the most is your description "tough fighters." For I had the idea that attorneys generally has expensive talk, but that Poelmann, on the other hand, was more of a hands-on approach and says what's what. I can identify with that down-to-earth attitude."
A warm and inclusive atmosphere
During her internship, Imke was pleasantly surprised by the warm and open atmosphere within the office. "The lack of fixed workplaces fosters a sense of belonging because everyone works together in common areas. This makes it easy to mix with all kinds of different people and you get the feeling that there is no particular hierarchy. You can talk to anyone, regardless of their position within the office."
Learning and growing
Throughout her internship, Imke was given several learning opportunities, and although she found it challenging to name one pivotal moment, she gained knowledge like a sponge. Under the guidance of Reinier Pijls and Valerie Lipman, Imke felt confident from the beginning. "I was encouraged to take on responsibilities and find solutions independently. They also came to me on their own accord to spar. It's nice to notice that everyone is so involved."
The noble profession of law
Having experienced the complexities of the legal profession firsthand, Imke is excited about the role of a lawyer. "The diverse questions and challenges involved in the job make it an exciting career choice." Now that she is plotting her future after college, the legal profession is much higher on her list of possibilities.
