With more than 30 years of experience as a (notarial) real estate lawyer, Jet Naber is taking an interesting step in her career. After 14 years of her own entrepreneurship, she joins Poelmann van den Broek attorneys as a partner in the Real Estate and Project Development team. Jet: "A new step and at the same time not so much. Because both entrepreneurship and real estate have been in my heart for years. With those two loves, I will be building our new full service office in Amsterdam together with a cool team."

Straightforward, that's Jet. An attitude that has always served her well in Amsterdam, for example as an independent real estate lawyer in the flexible shell of firms such as De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, Loyens Loeff and A&O Shearman. "When I moved to Velp for love, I noticed that people often express themselves more cautiously outside Amsterdam," Jet laughs. "It never got in my way. Because even though I wear my heart on my sleeve, I make sure people feel at ease. As a connector, I see business success as a team effort; we do it together."
She feels right at home at Poelmann van den Broek, known as a firm with committed attorneys who speak the language of business owners . "I am a pragmatic lawyer who thinks in terms of solutions," Jet says of herself. "And like business owners , I know that success is about more than just numbers. It's also about creating and maintaining trust. When you talk to someone person to person, you get further."
With a background in civil real estate law, property law and tenancy law, Jet brings a wealth of experience to the new office. Her specialization in assisting with complex real estate projects, including notarial matters, is a great addition to the team providing clients with the best service on all fronts. "Preparing contracts and deeds is also an essential part of project development, something often left to notaries. With my notarial background and all the expertise of Poelmann van den Broek, we can offer clients in both Nijmegen and Amsterdam even more full service. It is a lot more efficient that everything is notary-proof immediately before the final signature is put," she explains.
The decision to become an independent business owner came 13 years ago when Jet decided to take a new direction after years of working in the notary's office. "I felt it was time for something different. The notary world with all its checks and balances no longer suited me. When I started being self-employed, I quickly noticed that I had developed much more into an all-round lawyer who manages projects, rather than just the content-driven notarial lawyer."
Jet's drive fit well with Poelmann van den Broek, a law firm known for its forward-thinking and pragmatic approach. "Great, I thought, to hear that in their early years at Poelmann van den Broek they were known as the cowboys of Curaçaoweg, the building where they were located at the time. They have an adventurous spirit, dare to give advice that transcends theory and have a keen eye for opportunities that can benefit the client." In addition to her expertise in civil real estate law, Jet has also developed in recent years as a specialist in lease law, specifically for commercial premises. "In commercial real estate transactions, such as the acquisition of offices and retail properties by investors, rental law often plays an important role. It is an interplay in which a broad view is essential," Jet said.
This experience, combined with her work at other law firms in Amsterdam has prepared Jet for the role she now assumes at Poelmann van den Broek. "In Amsterdam, there is a growing need for specialized firms that can offer the same service as international firms at competitive rates. That is what we have to offer in Amsterdam: high-quality legal services, a keen eye with which we help clients seize opportunities and clear, personal advice."
Jet is not afraid of challenges. In fact, she seeks them out. "To keep developing yourself, you have to take steps outside your comfort zone. I've always done that and I'm going to do it again now with Poelmann van den Broek in Amsterdam. It's pioneering, but that's what makes it fun. I look forward to working with a team of specialists to establish an office where all the expertise for the benefit of business owners is guaranteed from Amsterdam."
The challenges in the real estate industry are great, and Jet sees sustainability as a major gamechanger. "Because of the nitrogen policy and the middle-rent regulation, construction is stagnating. That calls for innovative legal solutions. Take circular construction: who owns building components when they are reused? And how do we finance that? Our current property law is not yet geared to that. These kinds of issues make the work challenging, but that is precisely what I find interesting."
In the coming months, Jet will spend a lot of time at the head office in Nijmegen to get to know her colleagues better. "I expect that the combined real estate expertise and the knowledge and experience of the Company and Enterprise team will both be very important for the success of the Amsterdam office. Mergers and acquisitions in the real estate sector are becoming increasingly complex, especially in the international market. This is true for both existing and new clients in Nijmegen and in Amsterdam."
After an energetic day at work, Jet prefers to clear her head at home in Velp. Jet: "I like to walk in the woods at the edge of the Veluwe with our dog Guus and enjoy BBQs in the garden. That's my way of finding balance. I also love driving to Amsterdam early in the morning, before rush hour starts. Then I have all the peace and quiet to do my thing. Incidentally, I find it encouraging to see at that early hour how much construction traffic is on the road. Fortunately, there is still quite a bit of construction going on in the Netherlands. It's cool to be able to contribute to that with a sharp team."
Would you like to congratulate Jet on her new role and are you curious about our office in Amsterdam? You are most welcome! Let us know when you are coming, and we will be happy to have a cup of coffee together.
