For the past two months, Lilian Veldkamp has been doing an internship at Poelmann van den Broek. She wanted to gain practical experience in addition to studying the masters in corporate law and financial law at Radboud University Nijmegen. A student internship at our office really appealed to her, because in principle it is an office-wide internship, but you have the opportunity to choose which service area you would particularly like to gain experience in. Because of her masters, her focus was on the service area of entrepreneurship.
During her internship, it was confirmed that Lilian would like to work as a lawyer after her studies: "This is partly due to the pleasant and open culture at the firm. From the very first moment, I was involved in everything. From writing internal notes, to attending hearings. I also conducted client interviews and attended lectures. You receive good guidance and fine feedback on your papers. This makes doing an internship incredibly educational and provides a good picture of the diverse work of a lawyer."
In particular, the work of a trustee positively surprised Lilian: "The profession of trustee is very dynamic and that appeals to me. I found it interesting to take a look on site at different bankruptcies. For example, I attended the completion of a commercial property together with one of the receivers."
Lilian also participated in the JOR training: "Poelmann van den Broek is known to me for its high level of knowledge and quality. That this is important is also really something I learned during my internship. For example, the attorneys receive JOR training every week, in which the most important case law is analyzed. Everyone prepares the prescribed case law. During the training, someone is assigned to explain what the judgments are about and what is the most important rule of law arising from them. This keeps the attorneys up to date with the latest developments in the law, which is of course very important.
In addition to the hard work, there is also time for informal activities: "I participated in the karting tournament, went out to lunch and went to various get-togethers. Someone also regularly drops in for a chat. This makes you feel welcome from the very first moment. I look back on a very fun and instructive period and would therefore recommend everyone to gain practical experience and do an internship during your studies!"
