Joint call: Tenants and landlords retail, engage in dialogue!

Further to my article on rent deferral (March 17, 2020), which reported on the consultation that took place between various real estate parties, a joint appeal has now been issued to landlords and tenants.

Consultation successful

Further to my article on rent deferral (March 17, 2020), which reported on the consultation that took place between various real estate parties, a joint appeal has now been issued to landlords and tenants.

Call March 24, 2020

On March 24, 2020, a letter was published in various media, including Detailhandel Nederland, Vastgoed Belang, IVBN, NRW and VGO appealing to all tenants and landlords of retail space in the Netherlands.

It is indicated that the situation created by the COVID-19 virus is having a huge impact on the Dutch retail market. More and more retailers are closing stores and seeing a drastic decline in sales.

Landlords of real estate may also be concerned about the value and cash flow of investments made in connection with potential financing obligations going forward.

Keep calm and engage in consultation

Short and sweet:

There are calls to keep calm, not to bombard each other back and forth with legal letters, but to seek contacts to jointly explore how the parties can reach a solution together.

Share the pain and choose appropriate solutions. The letter also provides several tips that can possibly be taken into account. Here is a link to the relevant letter. Do you prefer personal advice? Feel free to call me or send me an e-mail.
