This is how we express ourselves as good employers

At Poelmann van den Broek, 'being a good employer' is not just something our Labor service area advises clients on. It goes beyond a good pension plan, flexible working hours or Talent Management. At Poelmann van den Broek, 'being a good employer' is not just something our Labor service area advises clients on. It goes beyond a good pension plan, flexible working hours or Talent Management. Since this year, we have also been thinking about completely different things, such as welding, yoga and training together for the Seven Hills Run, as a result of our vitality policy: 'G4'!

Poelmann van den Broek is known as a committed employer, an accessible office where people communicate openly with each other. There is room for personal initiative and support in developing new ideas. The idea arose from the employees to "boost" this positive atmosphere. The board reacted enthusiastically, made extra budget available and asked the employees themselves to form a committee to give it further shape. And so it happened!

Everyone needs something different

Antoinette Niebeek, an attorney within the Labor service area and one of the committee members, explains. "What actually makes a happy employee? With some colleagues, I delved into that question and we came up with 'G4'. That stands for Healthylifestyle, Goodwork-life balance, Goodwork atmosphere and Enoughchallenge. Some of those Gs are already well embedded in our organization, but others could use a little more attention.

To make it practical, we came up with three pillars for this: joint courses, sports together and a personal budget. This personal budget is -I think- the best part. Colleagues can use that budget to do 'something' that contributes to their happiness and vitality. It is up to the colleague to decide how to use it. One colleague uses it to pick up a new hobby, such as guitar lessons or a course in welding. Another colleague uses it for a sport or a personal coach."

The mutual bond strengthens

Playing sports and taking courses together also picked up well. "In the spring, the Time Management course was offered to make smarter use of time and achieve a good work-life balance. The nice thing about this was that it was not a professional course and therefore both attorneys and support staff participated. We also did sports together: every two weeks on Wednesday we could join a tough boot camp class. And starting in September we will train together under professional guidance for the Seven Hills Night!"

The reactions are positive, says Antoinette: "The realization that your employer cares about your happiness and vitality and is involved in what makes you personally happy contributes to the good atmosphere at our office. Poelmann van den Broek is already an attractive employer because the firm is large enough to attract great clients and assignments, but small enough to know each other well. The G4 policy adds to that."
